Keep your proof of donation and request a separate receipt if needed

For donations made by bank transfer, EFT, FAST or credit card, the receipt or account statement issued by the bank serves as proof of donation. A separate donation receipt is not mandatory for these transactions, but one may be issued upon request after the transaction record is reviewed.

Proof of donation

A bank receipt or account statement serves as proof of donation

When a donation is made through the banking system, the transaction record created by the bank or payment provider may be used to document the donation. Keep the following records:

  • A bank-transfer, EFT or FAST transaction receipt
  • A bank statement or account summary
  • A bank record or card statement showing the credit-card transaction
  • The transaction or record number displayed after payment
  • Any transaction notification sent by bursverenler.org

A separate receipt is not mandatory

For a donation made by bank transfer, EFT, FAST or credit card, the banking record already documents the transaction. A separate paper or electronic donation receipt is therefore not mandatory.

Record check

Check the transaction details in your record

Before storing your proof of donation, confirm that the key transaction details are correct.

  • Donation date
  • Donation amount and currency
  • Transaction or reference number
  • Payment method
  • The supported organisation, scholarship programme or project
  • The bank or payment provider’s transaction description

The merchant or transaction description on a card statement may not exactly match the title of the donation page. In that case, use the date, amount and transaction number together to verify the record.

Receipt request

Email us if you would also like a donation receipt

If you need a donation receipt in addition to the banking record, email info@bursverenler.org. Include the following details so that your request can be matched to the correct transaction:

1

Provide donor information

State your full name. For a donation made on behalf of a legal entity, provide the organisation’s registered name and contact details for the request.

2

Add transaction details

Include the donation date, amount, payment method and the transaction or reference number where available.

3

Identify the page you supported

State which organisation, scholarship programme or project received your support and include the page link if possible.

4

Wait for the record review

The transaction is verified and the legal entity that received the donation is identified. The receipt request is then processed under the applicable record and legal requirements.

Do not send card security details

A receipt request does not require your full card number, CVV, expiry date, online-banking password or SMS verification code. If you need to share a bank receipt, mask unnecessary bank and card details.

Correct recipient

The receipt request is handled through the legal entity that received the donation

The organisation responsible for issuing a receipt depends on the account and legal entity that received the donation.

  • For a donation made through the bursverenler.org payment flow, email the transaction details to info@bursverenler.org.
  • If you transferred money directly to an organisation’s own bank account, request the receipt directly from that organisation.
  • If the donation page gives a different official contact channel, follow that instruction first.
  • Receipt details must be consistent with the payment record and applicable requirements.
Tax treatment

Donations made through bursverenler.org do not provide a tax benefit

You may retain a bank receipt or request a separate donation receipt for a donation made through bursverenler.org. However, these documents do not automatically create a tax deduction, exemption or other tax benefit.

  • Proof of donation confirms that the transaction took place.
  • Issuing a separate receipt does not change the donation’s tax treatment.
  • bursverenler.org does not offer a tax benefit for these donations to individual or institutional donors.
  • You may keep the document for your personal or organisational records.

Proof of payment and tax relief are not the same

A bank record or receipt documents the donation. The existence of a document does not mean that the payment may be deducted from taxable income.

Frequently asked questions

What to know about donation records and receipts

Is a bank record sufficient for a credit-card donation?

Yes. A bank record, card statement or account statement showing the credit-card transaction may be used as proof of donation. Keep the transaction reference shown after payment as well.

Do I have to obtain a separate electronic receipt?

No. A separate donation receipt or electronic receipt is not mandatory for donations made by bank transfer, EFT, FAST or credit card. You may still request one using the transaction details.

Does requesting a receipt provide a tax benefit?

No. Requesting or receiving a receipt does not change the tax treatment of a donation made through bursverenler.org and does not provide a tax benefit.

I did not receive an email or text message after payment

Do not repeat the donation. Check your bank or card activity, then email info@bursverenler.org with the transaction date, amount and reference number where available.

Can a receipt be issued in another person’s or organisation’s name?

Receipt details must be consistent with the payment record. A request to issue it in a name different from the payer is reviewed separately under the transaction record and applicable requirements, and cannot be guaranteed.

The amount or organisation shown in my record is incorrect

Do not repeat the payment. Keep the bank record, date, amount and reference number, and contact info@bursverenler.org. Do not share card security details.
